Worlds Largest Drink Luge and Bar Guinness World Record set by Wicked Audio

Normally this isn't something we would tell you about, but, not only is this kind of cool (pun intended), we are big fans of Wicked Audio's earbuds and headphones. Besides, making it into the Guinness Book of World Records is kind of a big deal.

Here's the scoop - Wicked Audio, along with Backstage Artist Lounge, branded its very own record making ice luge and bar at Alaska's BP World Ice Art Championships last week.

The challenge? To create the world's largest drink luge and bar from massive natural ice blocks in Fairbanks, Alaska during the World Ice Art Championships.

Although a number of records have been set for ice bars, sculptors and mazes, a record for the longest ice luge (icy beverage slalom) had never been set, making Wicked Audio a first-time record setter for such a phenomenon.

This record-setting creation is now the world's largest ice bar and ice luge. The ice bar stretched 208 feet (beating the former 160 feet record). The ice luge began at the top of a 24-foot sculpture of a woman, measured 23 feet long, and was designed so drinks could be poured starting at her neck and run down the entire luge, creating the world's first luge record. Mr. Sarelli, Crystal Creations, was responsible for the manpower behind this creation.

"At Wicked Audio we pride ourselves on being a company that breaks barriers and sets new trends. Not only do our products set us apart, but also our willingness to support both local and mainstream acts and to get involved in some out-of-the-ordinary grass roots support," said Paul Marshall, VP of Sales, Wicked Audio. "This record setting booze luge is yet another illustration of what makes Wicked Audio a leader in the music and entertainment world."

kissing Marathon Competition

A Thai couple has made history with the longest kiss ever during a Valentine's Day "kissathon" after they locked lips for 46 hours, 24 minutes and nine seconds.

Organizers of the event, which took place at a southern beach resort town, claim it marked the longest recorded smooch in history.

"We didn't think we would find anybody that could break the record," CBS News quoted Somporn Naksuetrong, the manager of Pattaya's Louis Tussaud's Waxworks museum, which organized the competition, as saying.

Fourteen couples had started off the contest at 6 a.m. on February 13, and by February 14 afternoon, half had already beaten the record and were still smooching away on the corridor of an oceanside shopping mall in Pattaya.

A Bangkok couple, Ekkachai and Laksana Tiranarat, emerged as the winner, and they were awarded a diamond ring worth 50,000 Thai Baht (1,606 dollars), and a cash prize of 100,000 Baht (3,213 dollars).

According to Guinness World Records, whose officials will have to verify the latest milestone for it to become official, the previous record of just over 32 hours had been set by a couple in Germany in 2009.

The rule for the kissathon is that couples should lock lips all the time, and if they wish to have a drink they have to do so using straws while continuing the kiss.

And if they wish to use the bathroom, they have to continue embracing each other, while accompanied by contest monitors. But the harshest rule was no sitting or sleeping.

Taiwanese Woman Catches 4 million Mosquitoes set World Record

If mosquitoes  have nightmares, odds are Huang Yuyen will be making an appearance in them. Yuyen, a pig farmer from Taiwan, may soon find a place in the record books for killing the most winged-bloodsuckers in a month -- over 4 million of them, in fact. The insect slaughter was part of a contest held by a company that makes bug-catchers, which awarded Yuyen around $3,000 for her 3 lbs, 5 ounces worth of mosquito carcasses.

According to the Liberty Times, Yuyen beat out 72 other mosquito-catching participants quite handily -- her closest competitor nabbed less than half of her estimated 4 million bugs. The contest was organized by Imbictus International, a manufacturer of 'environmentally friendly' mosquito-traps, which subdue the bloodsuckers without harmful chemicals.

Yuyen reportedly used 10 of these bug-catchers around her pig farm in southern Taiwan to round up the 4.05 million mosquitoes in just one month. For her effort, she walked away with a cool $3,000 and probably a place in the record books; an application has been sent to the Guinness World Records.

To achieve this record, Yuyen managed to capture about 90 mosquitoes every minute for a month.

This isn't the first time mosquito hunting has been made a sport. Earlier this summer, folks in the town of Tartu, Estonia gathered for a contest to see how many of those pesky insects they could kill in 10 minutes -- though unlike Yuyen, many used their exposed skin as bait. In all, around 400 bugs were nabbed by the 38 participants.

While the death of 4 million mosquitoes will likely not have a significant impact on the insect's numbers in Taiwan, the sheer scale of the slaughter does raise some ethical questions among people who, you know, hold some reverence for living things. It's not to say that even the most devout animal-rights activist wouldn't take a smack at a mosquito given the opportunity, but killing millions of them for a contest may be a bit much to celebrate.

Still, it's no wonder why people would relish in the death of so many mosquitoes considering the human toll they've taken. Throughout the world, mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue and malaria continue to threaten communities, a problem expected to worsen as rising temps and increases in rainfall bolster the insect's numbers -- evidenced, perhaps, by the fact that one woman in Taiwan was able to catch over 4 million of them in a month.

No word yet on how Yuyen plans on spending her prize money, but I suspect bug-spray will be near the top of her list.

Tyler Shields Stays Awake For 40 Days, Sets A World Record

Tyler Shields  sleeping after 40 days !

The American professional photographer Tyler Shields announced two days before that he is all to break the previous world record and set a record for himself by staying awake for 40 days. The Los Angeles photographer said that he stayed awake for consecutive 968 hours to make a new world record. After setting his own record he said that one of the main interesting fact is that nobody is going to complain about being tired when they are around him as he has spent 40 sleepless days and nights.
Tyler Shields, after his achievement told a reputed media source that now that he has set the record of staying awake for 968 hours, no body can tell him that he is “exhausted” when the person is with Tyler Shields. Early in this week Tyler Shields said that he completed his sleep-deprivation and has overcome fevers, eye pain, headaches and in the end even the loss of “feeling on his legs” to last more than a month without sleep.

In-spite of all his efforts, Guinness World Records officials said that they would not recognize this as a record as it is very difficult to prove that he actually did not sleep for so many hours.
Tyler Shields, on the other hand said that it is “important” for people to do and believe in things that they feel is “impossible”. However, he also said that many people told him that he would never be able to make it till 40 days as the task was “impossible” but he wanted to “challenge” himself. He explained that the whole process was “terrible” for him. In the end, he said that he would not advise anyone to do it though after setting the record he feels it was “pretty awesome”.

World's Biggest Matchstick Model Guinness Records

A retired British oil rig worker has claimed the record for creating the world's biggest matchstick model - using four million pieces.

David Reynolds, 51, has spent 15 years creating the replica of a North Sea oil platform and invested £5,000 on glue and matchsticks.

The finished model weighs one tonne and is 12ft tall and 21ft long. His creation has now been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's biggest matchstick model - with 4,075,000 million individual matchsticks.

The previous biggest was a recreation of the Titanic using 3.5million. Mr Reynolds, who lives with his wife Julie, 49, in Southampton, described the remarkable model as a hobby which 'got out of hand'.

He said: 'People sit in front of the television for five or six hours a night but I get bored so I'd just nip off for a few hours here and there to work on it.

'It just started as a bit of a hobby but I guess it got out of hand. 'I never really gave it much thought but when people came round they'd comment on how incredible it was. I suppose I got quite complacent about it.

'It's good fun and keeps the grey matter working.' Mr Reynolds, who was medically retired in 1998, first started work on the replica of the Brent Bravo rig in the summer of 1994.

The former engineer, who worked on temporary oil rigs in the 1980s, has recreated the platform, which he has dubbed the Cathedrals of the Sea, in painstaking detail.

His model includes the accommodation block for rig workers, the flotilla of ships moored to the rig, the platforms and towers.

He spent between two and ten hours a day dabbling with the model - a total of 32,000 hours over the 15 year labour of love.

The model became so big it had to be split into 14 different sections and housed in various rooms throughout his home.

It was finally assembled into one piece at the Bursledon Brickworks Museum in Southampton in March this year.

Mr Reynolds says he has been contacted by museums in the US who have offered to buy it.

He added: 'It wasn't as though I set out to make something so huge but it just grew and grew.

'I wasn't even sure it would all fit together and it was quite nerve-racking when I assembled it.
'I've had a few museums contact me to say they want to buy it and there's even been an offer from Hollywood.'
But his wife Julie said: 'I am absolutely sick to death at the sight of a matchstick but I think there is still more to come unfortunately.
'But at least I know where he is and what he's doing, so I'd rather have him there than down the pub.'
Mr Reynolds has already started on his next project - an armada of matchstick ships.

Edgar Mueller - World's Biggest 3D Pavement Art set Guinness Record

Edgar Mueller, the street artist, has broken a new Guinness World Record after creating the world's biggest 3D pavement art featuring characters from the movie Ice Age.
He beat his own world record by covering an area of 330 square metres with a wintry scene to coincide with the DVD launch of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
Taking six days to create, the pavement art, at Westfield London, features characters Manny, Buck, Sid, Diego, Scrat and Scratte edging over an icy crevasse.
Craig Glenday, Editor in Chief of Guinness World Records, said: "Guinness World Records has been monitoring the fantastic work of Edgar Mueller for some time now, and we're thrilled to be so closely involved with his latest record-breaking creation.
"Children – and adults – around the world are blown away by Edgar's eye-popping landscapes, and he truly deserves a place in the record books taking the art of pavement of drawing to stratospheric new levels."
Mueller, 41, who has been street painting since he was 16, said: "I used to use chalk and pastels but as my paintings got bigger and bigger I had to use wall paint in case of heavy rain. I also want people to interact with the painting. "I'm not a record hunter, but because I want to change public areas into a different look, to look different from daily life I have to go huge. If I want to change a street, then I have to cover the whole street, so that's the reason my paintings are so big."

Watching 57 Movies in 123 Hours Non-Stop World Record

Joachim and Claudia Wavra today emerged as the winners of the Netflix Popcorn Bowl event after 123 hours and 10 minutes of continuous movie watching. Hosted by Netflix the world's largest online movie rental service, the grueling movie marathon began on October 2 at 12:00 p.m. ET and concluded today at 3:10 p.m. ET establishing a new Guinness World Record(R) for most consecutive hours spent watching movies. Scroll down for  Video

Pair Breaks Guinness World Record for Longest Movie Marathon

Held in a plexi-glass house in New York's Times Square, the event began with eight Netflix challengers and narrowed to two by the 72-hour mark. The participants began the journey with this summer's hit "Iron Man" (2008), and concluded with the contemporary classic "Thelma & Louise" (1991). In total, they watched 57 films, including "The American President," "The Bourne Identity," "Chariots of Fire," "Kill Bill Vol. 2," "The English Patient," "Caddyshack" and many more. As a sign of support, Academy-Award(R) winning actor Susan Sarandon dropped off the final film and gave the weary participants words of encouragement in the final hours of the event.

"I have enjoyed watching so many wonderful American movies in the last five days," said Joachim, a 39-year-old Sri Lanka native who now lives in Toronto. "I currently hold 33 Guinness World Records and I am happy to be achieving more of my goals by adding the Netflix Popcorn Bowl to my accomplishments."

"Setting the new world record at the Netflix Popcorn Bowl event has been an unforgettable experience," said the 31-year-old Wavra of Petersberg, Germany. "This is the fourth time I am breaking this record, but doing it in New York City is especially important to me because I've always wanted to do something great here."

According to the contest's rules, each movie had to be viewed until the last credit rolled. The participants were closely monitored by judges and medical professionals who checked their vital signs on a regular basis to ensure they could safely endure the challenge. Under Guinness World Record rules, competitors could not divert their eyes from the screen, but were allowed 10-minute breaks between movies.

Stamina, determination, love of movies, team camaraderie and the chance to get in the Guinness World Records book kept the participants in the game. The challengers chatted during movies, high-fived at milestone moments and exercised together to keep awake. Exercise guru Richard Simmons visited on day two of the event to lead the group in calisthenics. Contestants who conceded returned to the arena to exhort their colleagues on.

World's Largest Floating Christmas Tree 2010 in Brazil

The Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree, according to the Guinness Book of Records is the largest floating Christmas tree in the world, has been adorning the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon since 1996. It is a picture perfect site in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is now on display for its 15th straight year. With this year's theme "A Story of Reunions," the Christmas Tree is one of the three largest events in Rio de Janeiro, together with Carnival and New Year's Eve.

The Tree was inaugurated this Saturday, December 4, during a spectacular event open to the public and attended by world class Brazilian singers including Milton Nascimento, Simone and Ivan Lins. Starting this Sunday and running through Epiphany on January 6, the largest floating Christmas tree in the world will be lit up daily at 7:30 pm.

The tree has a total of fifteen sequential patterns of lights and colors illuminated by 105 kilometers of lighted strands, 3.3 million miniature bulbs and 2,100 strobes that simulate twinkling stars. The overall effect is reproduced on a structure 85 meters tall, or approximately the same height as a 28-story building.

"The Tree reaching its 15th year is good reason to be proud. It is a monument, now part of Brazilians' Christmas and an international benchmark that conveys peace, harmony and happiness," said Enrique Adan, Marketing Director for Grupo Bradesco Seguros.

Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik from Orissa created world’s longest Santa Claus on sand at Golden beach of Puri on the occasion of Christmas Eve. Pattnaik created 160ft long santa claus for “Limca Book of world Record” to break his won record which was created by him on 2006 for 100ft long sand Santa claus.

Editor of Limca Book of world record Vijaya Ghosh given a consent to Mr. Pattnaik by an email to proceed.

Christmas Tree with Tricycle World Records

A Hyderabad innovator who put together an office from vintage car parts has branched off — into making Christmas trees.

K. Sudhakar Yadav’s new creation is a 20x13-feet tree mounted on a tricycle powered by four pairs of pedals that gives viewers the impression that it is floating around, and has been inspired by his 12-year-old daughter Stavya.

“I created this for my daughter,” said Sudhakar, whose office nameplate spells his name as “Sudhacar” to reflect his unflagging zeal for automobiles.

His Christmas contraption is also green, in the ecological sense. “There is no motor in the cycle. I believe all beautiful things needn’t necessarily pollute the environment.”

Although the moving tree has not outgrown the world’s biggest floating Christmas tree, 85 metres tall, in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, Hyderabad can still savour the fruits of the freewheeling entrepreneur’s zeal for the unusual.

Sudhakar displayed his latest creation to the public outside a Hyderabad multiplex early this evening.

A four-seater, the Christmas tricycle can travel 10km per hour. Riders are hidden under the tree. It has everything that goes with a cycle —the handle, hubs, brakes, chains, sockets and light cast aluminium wheels.

The Christmas tree is the 27th creation by Sudhakar, who entered the Guinness World Records for making the longest tricycle and the Limca Book of Records for the smallest double-decker bus. This isn’t the first time he has tried something with tricycles: he came up with a giant moving football to coincide with the World Cup this year.

Cars, though, seem a life-long passion. The maker of stiletto car, lipstick car, compact car and even a computer-shaped car is eyeing new milestones. “In another eight months, I plan to add a book car, pen car, pencil car and a sharpener car to complete the catalogue, which I wish to dedicate to women and children,” said Sudhakar.

His office, entirely designed with spare parts of Ford Model T, Austin, Lagonda and the 1937 Buick, still remains a big draw for those who have heard of it. The sofas are made of 1930 Buick and Ford Jalopy parts. The central table is made of the body of a 1927 Austin. The focal point of the office, his massive desk, has been crafted from a 1908 Ford Model T that had put the world on wheels at the beginning of the last century.

But Sudhakar is hungry for more. “I plan a car-shaped dinning table that can be assembled in 10 minutes.”

Michael Jackson - Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star World Record

One of the most interesting things about Michael Jackson is that even though he died at the young age of 50, so many of us seemed to have grown up listening to his music and trying to copy his dance moves.

I guess that is what happens when you’ve been performing and making records since 1968 at the age of 10 – first as the lead singer of the Jackson Five and later as the world’s most popular solo artist.

But, while his iconic artistry and eccentric lifestyle are well known, I want to spend a few moments reflecting on Michael’s equally impressive record of service to humanity.

Born in 1958 in the steel-mill city of Gary, Indiana, Michael’s life and career paralleled generations of social and economic change. In 1967, just one year before the Jackson Five burst on the scene as Motown’s newest sensation, Richard Hatcher was elected Mayor of Gary, becoming one of the first African American mayors in the country.

Michael and his brothers first captured the nation’s attention in 1968, the year of Martin Luther King’s assassination. Their jubilant music brought people of different races together, some for the first time, at a moment when the forces of discord seemed intent on tearing us apart.

In songs like “We are the World,” and “Man in the Mirror,” Michael spoke to the hearts of people and made powerful statements about the need for greater unity, compassion and peace in the world.

Much of the proceeds of his records and tours were donated to charities devoted to African relief, college scholarships and HIV/AIDS. In 1992, he founded the Heal the World Foundation to relieve the suffering of children around the world.

His “Dangerous World Tour” that year gave him the opportunity, in his own words, to “visit children around the world, as well as spread the message of global love, in the hope that others will be moved to do their share to help heal the world.” In 2000, the Guinness Book of World Records cited Michael Jackson for holding the world record for the “Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star.”

Michael Jackson takes his place among the greatest entertainers of all time. As his mentor and collaborator, Quincy Jones said, “In the 40s you had Sinatra, in the 50s Elvis, in the 60s the Beatles, in the 70s the innovation of Dolby—in the 80s you had Michael Jackson. He was the biggest entertainer on the planet.”

As we mourn his passing in these uncertain times, we might do well to remember the words to one of Michael Jackson’s most poignant songs: “I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer – if you wanna make the world a better place take a look at yourself then make a change.”

Our prayers go out to the Jackson family and Michael’s children. We will all miss the King of Pop.

World Youngest Story Writer World Record set by Freddie Neno

Freddie Neno, from Eastington, Glos, sent a storyline to publishers D C Thompson and Co Ltd for the ''Fred's Bed'' comic strip that runs in the weekly magazine.
The tale sees comic star Fred disappear under his bed only to be transported to the Wild West where he meets cowboys and crocodiles.

Beano staff snapped up the idea and featured it in this week's edition of the comic book.

They sent Freddie an official letter declaring him as the magazine's youngest ever contributor.

The thrilled schoolboy said: ''I'm really proud of myself as all the ideas were mine.

''Lots of my friends at school are jealous. I now want to be a writer when I'm older.''

The hero of the strip is a boy named Fred who discovers that when he crawls under his bed he is transported to a different world.

Freddie Neno's story begins with Fred staring out his window at a rainy day wishing he was somewhere hot and dry.

He crawls under his bed where he is whisked away by cowboys to the Wild West and tossed into a cool and refreshing creek.

But crocodiles lurking in the creek soon chase the comic hero out of the water and he's left realising how good it was to be at home.

The Eastington Primary School student's story was published last Wednesday in Issue 3534 of the comic book.

Freddie's father David Neno, a 45-year-old clock restorer, said: ''I'm massively proud. He's very laid back about, but it's every little boy's dream.

''He's got a letter from Iain McLoughlan, the writer of Fred's bed, saying that he is officially the youngest writer The Beano's ever worked with.''

Michael Stirling, deputy head of children's entertainment for The Beano's publisher, said: ''Freddie didn't just give us an idea, he gave us pretty much the whole story.

''Our Beano writer Iain McLaughlin is rated as possibly the best scriptwriter in British humour comics right now but Freddie's first attempt at a 'Fred's Bed' story was so good I think Iain has a serious rival.

''The future of the Beano is bright, with fresh talent like Freddie ready to take over. It's actually given us an idea to ask Freddie's fellow readers to suggest where exactly Fred should travel every week via our website.''

6 years Old Yoga Teacher World Record set by Shruti Pandey India

6 years Old Yoga Teacher World Record set by Shruti Pandey India At just six, Shruti Pandey is the youngest yoga trainer in the world.

The bendy youngster has been teaching adults at an ashram, in northern India, for the last two years.

Her trainer, Hari Chetan, 67, set up the ashram 35 years ago and as soon as little Shruti became one of his students, as a tiny four-year old, he spotted her talents.

Now she starts her classes at 5.30am every morning, at Brahmanand Saraswati Dham, in the Jhunsi town, dressed in white leggings and a red t-shirt surrounded by 30 eager pupils ranging from businessmen, teachers, housewives to pensioners.

Shruti said: 'It feels good when people follow my instructions, I feel like a real teacher.

'I got interested in yoga after seeing my brother do it. I tried picking it up myself but it was too hard. So I asked my parents to send me to yoga classes.'

Her brother, Harsh Kumar, now 11-years-old, made the Limca Book of Records at the tender age of five by learning all 84 yoga positions - but he's never been interested in being a teacher like his sister.

Hari, who Shruti also calls her grandfather, think she's a miracle.

'She's a fast learner and a perfectionist. She grasps techniques quickly unlike kids her own age, who get bored with something as patience consuming as yoga.

'Within just six months of her training, she surprised everyone by doing the toughest positions with ease and perfection. She's a natural.'

Shruti can manage some of yoga's most challenging positions. She can easily hold her entire body on the strength of her little arms and hang her legs right over her head backwards.

One of Shruti's fans, 90-year-old Swami Bhanu, a retired teacher, said: 'The best thing about Shruti is she tries to provide an alternative position for the complicated ones that are difficult for an older person like me to do. She's very patient.'

Businessman Lokendra Pal Singh, 48, has been attending Shruti's classes for three months and said, 'I have noticed a positive change in my life. I used to be short-tempered, but now I'm able to control my anger to quite an extent and it's all thanks to a little six-year old.'

Rubik's Cube world record set by Teenager

Erik Akkersdijk, 18, broke the world record for solving a standard 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube, with a time of 7.08 seconds at the Czech Open at the weekend.

Australia's quickest Rubik's Cube solver Jasmine Lee, who completed the puzzle in 20.37 seconds at the UK Open in 2006, said Akkersdijk's new mark would be hard for anyone to beat.

"That new record is pretty amazing - over 1.5 seconds faster than the previous record. That's a big margin at the top levels of competitive cubing," she said.

Akkersdijk had held the record before with a time of 9.77 seconds, set during the Dutch Open in 2007.

Bu that record had been beaten by Edouard Chambon (9.18 seconds at the Murcia Open 2008 ) and then Japan's Yu Nakajima (8.72 seconds the Kashiwa Open 2008).

In competitive cubing, each cube is rotated by officials into a random configuration unveiled to the solver when the clock starts.

In official compeition only 13 people have ever solved the cube in less than 10 seconds and all those times have been set in the last two years.

Akkersdijk, an environmental management student, took up speedcubing in 2005 and on his website he lists his other hobbies as chess, juggling, building model airplanes and swimming.

World Tallest Decorated Christmas Tree World Record set by Jakarta

World Tallest Decorated Christmas Tree World Record set by Jakarta For the second year in a row in Indonesia, a shopping center has created the world's tallest replica Christmas tree, decorated with one million lights.

The chairman of the Indonesian World Record Museum has given an award to the Central Park shopping center in Jakarta on Saturday.

[Jaya Suprana, Indonesian World Record Museum]:

"Today’s record is very interesting. It’s a good idea as a marketing concept. In welcoming the Christmas season, Central Park creates the tallest Christmas tree in Indonesia. This will become history and a tourist attraction for visitors.”

The lighting of the 120-foot Christmas tree replica was enlivened by sparkling fireworks and snow effects that were scattered from the top of the tree.

The lofty replica is built of iron covered with plastic fir.

The star on the top is made of LED lights and a million colored LED lights highlighting the tree itself.

Central Park broke the record for the tallest Christmas tree last year but this year’s record-breaker reaches 120 feet.

"This record has actually broken last year’s record. I already talked with the management of Central Park, next year they may make one even taller."

The record was announced at the opening ceremony of the "Now Jakarta the Christmas City" event.
