He is worshipped, or at least remembered, in the beginning of any auspicious performance for blessings and auspiciousness. So I believed that people will accept this message to save the planet from Global Warming said Pattnaik.

World's Largest Floating Christmas Tree 2010 in Brazil

The Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree, according to the Guinness Book of Records is the largest floating Christmas tree in the world, has been adorning the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon since 1996. It is a picture perfect site in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is now on display for its 15th straight year. With this year's theme "A Story of Reunions," the Christmas Tree is one of the three largest events in Rio de Janeiro, together with Carnival and New Year's Eve.

The Tree was inaugurated this Saturday, December 4, during a spectacular event open to the public and attended by world class Brazilian singers including Milton Nascimento, Simone and Ivan Lins. Starting this Sunday and running through Epiphany on January 6, the largest floating Christmas tree in the world will be lit up daily at 7:30 pm.

The tree has a total of fifteen sequential patterns of lights and colors illuminated by 105 kilometers of lighted strands, 3.3 million miniature bulbs and 2,100 strobes that simulate twinkling stars. The overall effect is reproduced on a structure 85 meters tall, or approximately the same height as a 28-story building.

"The Tree reaching its 15th year is good reason to be proud. It is a monument, now part of Brazilians' Christmas and an international benchmark that conveys peace, harmony and happiness," said Enrique Adan, Marketing Director for Grupo Bradesco Seguros.

The electricity for the Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree is supplied by six self-contained biofuel generators, which, at 2,130 kVA capacity of power, runs simultaneously in order to maintain the overall splendor. The generators have been certified in accordance with international quality and safety standards.

The inaugural event can be seen in real time on the site http://www.arvorenatalbradescoseguros.com.br, including an English version, with internet users all over the world able to view details of the largest floating Christmas tree in the world and the beautiful Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon - all of this thanks to the use of 3D on Flash AS3.

The site also has 360 degree photos with views from within the Tree as well as outside, and a look back at prior editions, with photos and videos enabled for social networks (Twitter, Facebook and Delicious).

Internet users can capture an image of the Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree from any angle of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and send it as a virtual postcard, front and back included. News, agenda and photo download are available for everyone. iPhone, iPad and Android applications are addressed in the "Entertainment" section.

Worlds Longest Green Santa Sculpture World Record

People all over the World celebrating Christmas. On this occasion Santa Claus is appearing in green colour sand and enjoying under the blue sky on golden beach of Puri with spreading the massage of “Go Green” for global warming in the world.

Internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik from Orissa created world’s longest Santa Claus on sand at Golden beach of Puri on the occasion of Christmas Eve. Pattnaik created 160ft long santa claus for “Limca Book of world Record” to break his won record which was created by him on 2006 for 100ft long sand Santa claus.

Editor of Limca Book of world record Vijaya Ghosh given a consent to Mr. Pattnaik by an email to proceed.

For this sculpture Sudarsan with his 15 students of his sand art institute are assisting him to create this. The sculpture is 160 ft long, 30 ft wide and 30 ft high, using 15, 00 tons of sand and he took 16 hours to complete it. He also used green color sand for spreading global warming awareness.

“Puri is the place where sand art started in the 14th century and the tourist inflow into Puri is another reason why I chose Santa as the subject at this time of the year,” Pattnaik said.

Sudarsan has so far participated in more than 42 international sand sculpture championships across the world and won many awards including 2008 world championship title at Berlin for the country. Pattnaik also running a sand art school at Puri Beach in Orissa.

Christmas Tree with Tricycle World Records

A Hyderabad innovator who put together an office from vintage car parts has branched off — into making Christmas trees.

K. Sudhakar Yadav’s new creation is a 20x13-feet tree mounted on a tricycle powered by four pairs of pedals that gives viewers the impression that it is floating around, and has been inspired by his 12-year-old daughter Stavya.

“I created this for my daughter,” said Sudhakar, whose office nameplate spells his name as “Sudhacar” to reflect his unflagging zeal for automobiles.

His Christmas contraption is also green, in the ecological sense. “There is no motor in the cycle. I believe all beautiful things needn’t necessarily pollute the environment.”

Although the moving tree has not outgrown the world’s biggest floating Christmas tree, 85 metres tall, in Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro, Hyderabad can still savour the fruits of the freewheeling entrepreneur’s zeal for the unusual.

Sudhakar displayed his latest creation to the public outside a Hyderabad multiplex early this evening.

A four-seater, the Christmas tricycle can travel 10km per hour. Riders are hidden under the tree. It has everything that goes with a cycle —the handle, hubs, brakes, chains, sockets and light cast aluminium wheels.

The Christmas tree is the 27th creation by Sudhakar, who entered the Guinness World Records for making the longest tricycle and the Limca Book of Records for the smallest double-decker bus. This isn’t the first time he has tried something with tricycles: he came up with a giant moving football to coincide with the World Cup this year.

Cars, though, seem a life-long passion. The maker of stiletto car, lipstick car, compact car and even a computer-shaped car is eyeing new milestones. “In another eight months, I plan to add a book car, pen car, pencil car and a sharpener car to complete the catalogue, which I wish to dedicate to women and children,” said Sudhakar.

His office, entirely designed with spare parts of Ford Model T, Austin, Lagonda and the 1937 Buick, still remains a big draw for those who have heard of it. The sofas are made of 1930 Buick and Ford Jalopy parts. The central table is made of the body of a 1927 Austin. The focal point of the office, his massive desk, has been crafted from a 1908 Ford Model T that had put the world on wheels at the beginning of the last century.

But Sudhakar is hungry for more. “I plan a car-shaped dinning table that can be assembled in 10 minutes.”

Tennis stars Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer play match on floating court IN the Persian Gulf

When tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer face each other, the last thing you want is for rain to stop play
But in their latest clash, a flooded court was unavoidable - it took place on a floating platform on a lagoon in Qatar.
Federer of Switzerland took on his Spanish rival, the world No 1, on the specially made stage in Doha ahead of the Qatar Open, which marks the start of the tennis calendar. They have 25 Grand Slam titles between them, though 29-year-old Federer, older by five years, has won 16 - the male record.

The Swiss star will be looking to bounce back from a string of Grand Slam defeats in 2010 while his biggest rival Nadal is hoping to resume the dominant form that saw him capture the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open titles.
Spectators can expect to see much of the pair in 2011, starting with the tournament held in Doha, the Qatari capital, which begins today.
Last year, Russian Nikolay Davydenko came from a set down to defeat Nadal 0-6, 7-6, 6-4. And the year before that, Great British hope Andy Murray took the crown.

A taste of the Nadal-Federer rivalry was also on display in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, when Nadal edged Federer 7-6, 7-6 to defend his title at the invitational World Tennis Championships. Before leaving for Doha, Federer said he saw Abu Dhabi and Doha as a chance to try out new shots.
He added that he was looking forward to resuming his duel with Nadal that will get its first big test at the Australian Open where the Swiss player is the defending champion.
'It's a special Australian Open with me being the defending champion,' Federer said.

Obviously the focus is going to be on the two of us. Tennis is really going to be exciting down in Australia.'
Nadal said he doesn't feel any pressure ahead of this year's Australian Open, even though a tournament victory there would make him the first man to win four major titles in a row since Rod Laver pulled off a calendar Grand Slam by claiming all four in 1969.'It's not extra pressure, for me it's extra motivation,' said Nadal, who lost in the Doha final last year to Russian Nikolay Davydenko.
'The pressure is every day to play well and keep winning matches and I don't think (about) winning the Australian Open immediately,' Nadal said.
You never know what's going to happen since it's going to be a very difficult tournament

Top 10 News of the Decade (2001-2010)

Let’s get on with the more serious stuff. We’ve talked about the decade’s defining moments in music and sports, two of my favorite things. For today, let’s look at the biggest news in general. We are swarmed with thousands of news daily but there are those that create such a huge impact that they actually change how the world operate.

Most of these actually deal with social and political issues. These are the ten biggest.

10. 9/11 Attack (2001)

911 Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

A highly coordinated terrorist attack on the United States shook the world and most especially the Americans.

It was unimaginable, unbelievable, unfathomable and oh so real.

Many offer theories on the motivation behind the attack but whatever that real reason was, it will never be acceptable for the people who lost the people they love.

9. Iraq War (2003)

iraq Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

I will not get into the debate on whether or not it should have happened. I want to dwell on what we will all not disagree on and that is the fact that there are many families who suffered because of the war, families in the US, Britain, other countries who helped the US and the families in Iraq.

It should stop… suffering that is.

8. Hurricane Katrina (2005)

hurricane Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

Who are we to blame? No one really. No one is responsible but when you walk the streets and see dead bodies lying everywhere, you realize there was nothing we could have done to stop Mother Nature but something can be done to extend help once something like that happens.

Leaving dead bodies for four days… that will never be acceptable.

7. Death of Michael Jackson (2009)

michael Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

One of the few remaining living legend in music passed away.

Suddenly the world realizes and acknowledges his greateness.

How sad was it that he had to die for the world to start looking at him as a musician and not as a freak.

6. South Asian Tsunami (2004)

tsunami Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

It was a hard punch to make everyone realize US and Europe does not make up the world. There is the other side of the world. The side we only paid attention to for their beaches, mountain, weather and food.

5. Global Financial Crisis (2007)

financial2 Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

The financial crisis of 2007-2009 has been called the worst financial crisis since the great depression of the 1930′s. Economies worldwide have slowed as credit is tightened and international trade declines. The stock market has crashed, unemployment has risen, and governments around the world have issued unprecedented fiscal stimulus packages.

The world was and is poor.

4. 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurs in Haiti (2010)

haiti2 Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

Just as when you thought the world has had enough, the world from under decided to shake things up with a 7.0-magnitude earthquake occurs in Haiti.

3. The Rise of the Young and the Internet (2001)

technology2 Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

The world of power is dominated by old men who get their kick out of getting more money and more people to do everything they ask them to do.

Then the internet and communication technology suddenly became the strongest weapon against these old powers. And man was it some weapon. The world suddenly found themselve being led by guys who just got out of college and some not even done with it.

The internet is reigning supreme and it is a glaring sign that we are living in a new era. An era that will evolve faster than we can understand it.

1. Barack Obama elected 44th president of the United States (2008)

obama Top 10 News of the Decade (2001 2010)

It was a glorious moment.

It was a moment that proved the world it is possible. It is possible for anyone to fight centuries upon centuries of injustice and win. Once again, America proved to everyone it’s a free world. Not perfect but free.

Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

We have been looking at the past in the last couple of days so I thought it would be nice to start looking at the future. We have less than 24 hours of this year after all.

And in the interest of fun, let us try to predict what will keep us all entertained in the next 365 days based on the things that seem to be looming in the horizon.

10. Lindsay Lohan Recovery

lindsay Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

She’s been down for so long, she deserves to be up there at some point and I am predicting that 2011 is the year when we shall see her rise from the ashes and take the form of a woman of the new decade that will prove to all of us that it is never too late for any of us to correct the mistakes we have done in the past and still emerge the victor.

9. Limewire Replacement

limewire Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

Holy mother of thrist we need a new site. Come on.

There is frostwire and some other sites out there but we all have to admit Limewire was the king… until the major labels shot it down.

8. Noel Gallagher s Solo Album

noel Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

Our kid put off his plans for a solo album to devote his time to his new baby but we all know he is bound to come back soon. Despite Noel’s strong front, we all know that music is where his soft spot lies.

Noel gave us some of the greatest tunes we will ever hear. His brother already launched his own album and it was, this hurts to say for a fan like me, mediocre at best. We all know Noel is the real kickass songwriter so his new album is making the music lovers hold their breath. Come on Noel, make us wait longer and we will all die.

7. Kate and William Wedding

william kate2 Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

I am not the least bit interested but the world is.

I don’t know why but alright.

6. NBA Finals

kobe lebron2 Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

When Michael Jordan reigned supreme in the world of basketball, no one came close. No one.

When Kobe started reigning, many claim to be a close competitor. In fact, many claim to be better. However, Lebron James is the one that stands a good chance of dethroning Kobe, if he hasn’t already.

That is why seeing them face off in he finals would be the greatest roller coaster ride anyone can take.

5. Miley Cyrus Going Wild

miley Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

She’s, sort of, starting already.

But she’s just beginning. Man, I am excited to see what’s next.

4. Oprah Ending

oprah Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

The queen of talk is ending her show this year and I am sure she’s not going to allow her show exit without creating history. The mere fact she announced the end of her show a season earlier already ensured her ratings of stratospheric proportion.

She has so far given away cars, flew her audience to Australia in her private jet… wonder what’s next. Give us all a planet each or something.

3. Clash of the Greats

pacmay Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011
These are the matches I hope to happen:
*Pacquiao vs Mayweather
*GSP vs Silva
*Bryant vs James
etc.

2. Destiny of Facebook

facefriend Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

Social networking sites really have a mortality rate because technology develops too fast for anyone to catch up. Somewhere in the world someone is already coming up with a great new idea that will stomp current trends and all he needs is a computer to make things happen.

Facebook is doing everything it can to avoid death.

Will it cheat death or simply delay it? This would be interesting to watch.

1. North Korea vs The World

north korea Top 10 Things To Look Forward To in 2011

When it was Iraq telling the world they didn’t have nuclear weapons, we didn’t believe them and attacked them.

Now North Korea is sort of screaming they actually have it, we’re not coming near them.

What to do? what to do?
