Michael Jackson - Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star World Record

One of the most interesting things about Michael Jackson is that even though he died at the young age of 50, so many of us seemed to have grown up listening to his music and trying to copy his dance moves.

I guess that is what happens when you’ve been performing and making records since 1968 at the age of 10 – first as the lead singer of the Jackson Five and later as the world’s most popular solo artist.

But, while his iconic artistry and eccentric lifestyle are well known, I want to spend a few moments reflecting on Michael’s equally impressive record of service to humanity.

Born in 1958 in the steel-mill city of Gary, Indiana, Michael’s life and career paralleled generations of social and economic change. In 1967, just one year before the Jackson Five burst on the scene as Motown’s newest sensation, Richard Hatcher was elected Mayor of Gary, becoming one of the first African American mayors in the country.

Michael and his brothers first captured the nation’s attention in 1968, the year of Martin Luther King’s assassination. Their jubilant music brought people of different races together, some for the first time, at a moment when the forces of discord seemed intent on tearing us apart.

In songs like “We are the World,” and “Man in the Mirror,” Michael spoke to the hearts of people and made powerful statements about the need for greater unity, compassion and peace in the world.

Much of the proceeds of his records and tours were donated to charities devoted to African relief, college scholarships and HIV/AIDS. In 1992, he founded the Heal the World Foundation to relieve the suffering of children around the world.

His “Dangerous World Tour” that year gave him the opportunity, in his own words, to “visit children around the world, as well as spread the message of global love, in the hope that others will be moved to do their share to help heal the world.” In 2000, the Guinness Book of World Records cited Michael Jackson for holding the world record for the “Most Charities Supported by a Pop Star.”

Michael Jackson takes his place among the greatest entertainers of all time. As his mentor and collaborator, Quincy Jones said, “In the 40s you had Sinatra, in the 50s Elvis, in the 60s the Beatles, in the 70s the innovation of Dolby—in the 80s you had Michael Jackson. He was the biggest entertainer on the planet.”

As we mourn his passing in these uncertain times, we might do well to remember the words to one of Michael Jackson’s most poignant songs: “I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer – if you wanna make the world a better place take a look at yourself then make a change.”

Our prayers go out to the Jackson family and Michael’s children. We will all miss the King of Pop.

World Youngest Story Writer World Record set by Freddie Neno

Freddie Neno, from Eastington, Glos, sent a storyline to publishers D C Thompson and Co Ltd for the ''Fred's Bed'' comic strip that runs in the weekly magazine.
The tale sees comic star Fred disappear under his bed only to be transported to the Wild West where he meets cowboys and crocodiles.

Beano staff snapped up the idea and featured it in this week's edition of the comic book.

They sent Freddie an official letter declaring him as the magazine's youngest ever contributor.

The thrilled schoolboy said: ''I'm really proud of myself as all the ideas were mine.

''Lots of my friends at school are jealous. I now want to be a writer when I'm older.''

The hero of the strip is a boy named Fred who discovers that when he crawls under his bed he is transported to a different world.

Freddie Neno's story begins with Fred staring out his window at a rainy day wishing he was somewhere hot and dry.

He crawls under his bed where he is whisked away by cowboys to the Wild West and tossed into a cool and refreshing creek.

But crocodiles lurking in the creek soon chase the comic hero out of the water and he's left realising how good it was to be at home.

The Eastington Primary School student's story was published last Wednesday in Issue 3534 of the comic book.

Freddie's father David Neno, a 45-year-old clock restorer, said: ''I'm massively proud. He's very laid back about, but it's every little boy's dream.

''He's got a letter from Iain McLoughlan, the writer of Fred's bed, saying that he is officially the youngest writer The Beano's ever worked with.''

Michael Stirling, deputy head of children's entertainment for The Beano's publisher, said: ''Freddie didn't just give us an idea, he gave us pretty much the whole story.

''Our Beano writer Iain McLaughlin is rated as possibly the best scriptwriter in British humour comics right now but Freddie's first attempt at a 'Fred's Bed' story was so good I think Iain has a serious rival.

''The future of the Beano is bright, with fresh talent like Freddie ready to take over. It's actually given us an idea to ask Freddie's fellow readers to suggest where exactly Fred should travel every week via our website.''

6 years Old Yoga Teacher World Record set by Shruti Pandey India

6 years Old Yoga Teacher World Record set by Shruti Pandey India At just six, Shruti Pandey is the youngest yoga trainer in the world.

The bendy youngster has been teaching adults at an ashram, in northern India, for the last two years.

Her trainer, Hari Chetan, 67, set up the ashram 35 years ago and as soon as little Shruti became one of his students, as a tiny four-year old, he spotted her talents.

Now she starts her classes at 5.30am every morning, at Brahmanand Saraswati Dham, in the Jhunsi town, dressed in white leggings and a red t-shirt surrounded by 30 eager pupils ranging from businessmen, teachers, housewives to pensioners.

Shruti said: 'It feels good when people follow my instructions, I feel like a real teacher.

'I got interested in yoga after seeing my brother do it. I tried picking it up myself but it was too hard. So I asked my parents to send me to yoga classes.'

Her brother, Harsh Kumar, now 11-years-old, made the Limca Book of Records at the tender age of five by learning all 84 yoga positions - but he's never been interested in being a teacher like his sister.

Hari, who Shruti also calls her grandfather, think she's a miracle.

'She's a fast learner and a perfectionist. She grasps techniques quickly unlike kids her own age, who get bored with something as patience consuming as yoga.

'Within just six months of her training, she surprised everyone by doing the toughest positions with ease and perfection. She's a natural.'

Shruti can manage some of yoga's most challenging positions. She can easily hold her entire body on the strength of her little arms and hang her legs right over her head backwards.

One of Shruti's fans, 90-year-old Swami Bhanu, a retired teacher, said: 'The best thing about Shruti is she tries to provide an alternative position for the complicated ones that are difficult for an older person like me to do. She's very patient.'

Businessman Lokendra Pal Singh, 48, has been attending Shruti's classes for three months and said, 'I have noticed a positive change in my life. I used to be short-tempered, but now I'm able to control my anger to quite an extent and it's all thanks to a little six-year old.'

Rubik's Cube world record set by Teenager

Erik Akkersdijk, 18, broke the world record for solving a standard 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube, with a time of 7.08 seconds at the Czech Open at the weekend.

Australia's quickest Rubik's Cube solver Jasmine Lee, who completed the puzzle in 20.37 seconds at the UK Open in 2006, said Akkersdijk's new mark would be hard for anyone to beat.

"That new record is pretty amazing - over 1.5 seconds faster than the previous record. That's a big margin at the top levels of competitive cubing," she said.

Akkersdijk had held the record before with a time of 9.77 seconds, set during the Dutch Open in 2007.

Bu that record had been beaten by Edouard Chambon (9.18 seconds at the Murcia Open 2008 ) and then Japan's Yu Nakajima (8.72 seconds the Kashiwa Open 2008).

In competitive cubing, each cube is rotated by officials into a random configuration unveiled to the solver when the clock starts.

In official compeition only 13 people have ever solved the cube in less than 10 seconds and all those times have been set in the last two years.

Akkersdijk, an environmental management student, took up speedcubing in 2005 and on his website he lists his other hobbies as chess, juggling, building model airplanes and swimming.

World Tallest Decorated Christmas Tree World Record set by Jakarta

World Tallest Decorated Christmas Tree World Record set by Jakarta For the second year in a row in Indonesia, a shopping center has created the world's tallest replica Christmas tree, decorated with one million lights.

The chairman of the Indonesian World Record Museum has given an award to the Central Park shopping center in Jakarta on Saturday.

[Jaya Suprana, Indonesian World Record Museum]:

"Today’s record is very interesting. It’s a good idea as a marketing concept. In welcoming the Christmas season, Central Park creates the tallest Christmas tree in Indonesia. This will become history and a tourist attraction for visitors.”

The lighting of the 120-foot Christmas tree replica was enlivened by sparkling fireworks and snow effects that were scattered from the top of the tree.

The lofty replica is built of iron covered with plastic fir.

The star on the top is made of LED lights and a million colored LED lights highlighting the tree itself.

Central Park broke the record for the tallest Christmas tree last year but this year’s record-breaker reaches 120 feet.

"This record has actually broken last year’s record. I already talked with the management of Central Park, next year they may make one even taller."

The record was announced at the opening ceremony of the "Now Jakarta the Christmas City" event.

World's Tallest Chocolate Christmas Tree World Record set by Patrick Roger

Patrick Roger, an chocolate artist from France, made gigantic Chocolate Christmas tree to raise money for charity, auctioning off some parts of the tree and donating proceeds to an organization which studies neuromuscular disease.

Roger unveiled the massive tree in his studio in Sceaux, Paris. The 32-foot-tall, 4-ton Chocolate Tree took a whole month to work on and as talented chocolatier said making something like this was a great challenge for him.

The Chocolate Christmas tree, hailed as a structural wonder, used $45,000 worth of 65% dark chocolate.

Patrick Roger was named best French chocolate artist in 2000, an award for professionals combining taste and art and proving to be worthy representatives of French gastronomy. His laboratory features many other chocolate sculptures, including small reindeers and Santas that will also be exhibited.

With this tree, Roger set the new world record for the Tallest Chocolate Christmas Tree, beating Alain Roby who constructed a 22-foot-tall chocolate Christmas tree, but whose work was never submitted to Guinness World Records for recognition.

Top 10 Best Christmas Movies

Are you all set for Christmas?
Top 10 Best Christmas Movies I hope you like my “gifts” for all of you. Here is one more set, my list of top 10 best Christmas movies. Just in case you want to take a break from listening to the awesome Christmas songs, you can get a copy of these ten movies that are guaranteed to reinforce the spirit of Christmas.
Merry Christmas!

10. Polar Express

polar Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
Santa Claus is up there in awesomeness with Optimus Prime and Dracula.
And this movie perfect captures how we all, at one point, realize that he is not real. It is sad really but all too necessary. This movie also gives us a glimpse of the “what if” many of us want to explore, “What if Santa is real?”

9. The Santa Clause

santa Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
The premise of the story is an absolute genius. It makes some sense for Santa to meet an accident at one point in his career which will leave him unable to fulfill his Christmas duty, to deliver gifts.
It is just hilarious to think that anyone will be forced into substituting for him. I mean, you can even substitute Kobe when he gets injured, what made anyone think that you can get someone to take Santa’s place.

8. The Grinch

grinch Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
Because no one can hate Christmas. It’s just impossible.
Even people of different religion celebrate with the rest of the world. It is a clear sign that as much as it is supposed to be about the birthday of Christ, it is also about that one day in a year when nothing else matters but love.

7. The Holiday

holiday Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
It is as cheesy as cheesy can get.
Christmas can do this to some people, remind us all of our heartaches and loneliness especially when we see everyone else with their “the one”. I just wish that Christmas can bring to us all what it brought to the main characters, the love of their lives.

6. The Nightmare Before Christmas

nightmare before christmas Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
A Tim Burton Christmas story! That cannot be taken out of this list, no matter what.
It tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from “Halloween Town” who opens a portal to “Christmas Town”. Walt Disney Pictures decided to release the film under their Touchstone Pictures banner because they thought Nightmare would be “too dark and scary for kids”. The Nightmare Before Christmas has been viewed with critical and financial success. Disney has reissued the film annually under their Disney Digital 3-D format since 2006.

5. A Christmas Carol and Home Alone

An animated retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic novel about a Victorian-era miser taken on a journey of self-redemption, courtesy of several mysterious Christmas apparitions.

Home Alone, on the other hand, is a classic despite the lead character’s terrible acting.

4. Elf

It was released in the United States on November 7, 2003 and grossed over $220,400,000 worldwide. And why not? Imagine being adopted by Santa?! Epic!

It is the story of what takes place in New York City following Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, as people are left wondering whether or not a department store Santa might be the real thing. Because of its Christmas theme, the film has become a perennial Christmas favorite.
The film won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Edmund Gwenn), Best Writing, Original Story (Valentine Davies) and Best Writing, Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Picture, losing to Gentleman’s Agreement.
The next time you take a photo with that Santa in Walmart, start thinking what would happen if you discover he is the real Santa.

2. It s a Wonderful Life

wonderful Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
The heaviest movie on the list.
The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a man whose imminent suicide on Christmas Eve brings about the intervention of his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (Henry Travers).

1. Love Actually

love actually Top 10 Best Christmas Movies
Love Actually is the ultimate Marathon of romantic comedies. The most fun marathon anyone can ever participate in. This movie is a blatant call for love and it was impossible for us not to give it. There the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who’s smitten with his caterer; a widower (Liam Neeson) whose young son nurses the ultimate schoolboy crush; a writer (Colin Firth) who falls for his Portuguese housekeeper; a devoted wife and mother (Emma Thompson) coping with her potentially unfaithful husband (Alan Rickman); and a lovelorn American (Laura Linney) who’s desperately attracted to a colleague.
Every story ends sweetly, enough to fulfill our sweet Christmas cravings.

Johnny Depp - Hollywood's Highest Paid Actor with £21m

Johnny Depp has become Hollywood's current highest-earning actor after securing a £21 million pay deal for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film.
The fee is a guaranteed minimum earning for the film, On Stranger Tides, in which he reprises the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, but could increase if it is a box-office hit.
It places Depp at the top of the high-earning actors, above the likes of Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson, who each command around £18 million.

Studio bosses at Disney have agreed to the record pay deal because Depps high-profile Pirates co-stars, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom, are not returning for the next adventure.
Geoffrey Rush will again play Captain Barbossa while Penelope Cruz has been lined up for the female lead, although this has not been confirmed.
A source said: "The movie will feature flashbacks to Jack's early life."
Depp got £15 million for the third film, Dead Man's Chest, and stands to collect some £50 million from the whole series.
With the deal Depp joins the ranks of some of Hollywoods best known and highest-paid actors.
Here is a list of the Top 10 biggest payouts:
